Mr. Wood has spent almost his entire 36 year business career in the investment banking and municipal bond and brokerage business in San Francisco. From 1960 to 1993, he was employed by PaineWebber Incorporated and its predecessor firms, (Blyth & Co., Inc., Blyth Eastman Dillon and Blyth Eastman PaineWebber). After holding positions as a municipal analyst, first vice president, sales manager for Northern California and regional administrator for the Northwest Region, he re-joined the public finance department in 1977. In this capacity, he has assisted in financing more than $4 billion in municipal securities offerings as senior investment banker or financial advisor.
Mr. Wood has expertise in financing electric revenue, water, sewer, irrigation, student housing, transportation and redevelopment agency tax allocation issues, as well as multi-purpose issues of cities, counties and state agencies. Among Mr. Wood's most noteworthy financings are the following:
- More than 55 issues, totaling approximately $1 billion, to finance student housing, student unions, student parking, as well as other multi-purpose higher education facility bonds for the California State University System.
- Five separate electric revenue bond issues for the Imperial Irrigation District, totaling approximately $500 million.
- Nine issues for the California Transportation Commission or its predecessor agency, the California Toll Bridge Authority, totaling $425 million.
- More than 20 issues for the City of Sacramento, the Sacramento Redevelopment Agency and the Sacramento County Regional Sanitation District, totaling almost $1 billion, during the period 1960-1994. These issues financed the acquisition or construction of a public library, a light rail system, parking garages, a regional sanitation project, a public television station, a convention center, an exhibition hall, a theater, police and fire stations, and various redevelopment and projects, among other public purposes projects.
- More than 50 separate water and wastewater authority and irrigation district issues, totaling $500 million. Municipal clients for these projects included the Vista, Nevada, Merced, Gravely Ford, Oroville Wyandotte, Paradise and Richvale Irrigation Districts; the Sweetwater Authority; the United Conservation District; the Camrosa, Goleta, Montecito, Summerland, Carpinteria and various Orange County water districts; both the Fallbrook Public Utility District and the Fallbrook Sanitary District; and the Olivenhain and Marin Municipal water districts, as well as the City of Lakewood.
- More than $250 million in redevelopment agency tax allocation financings, including projects for the cities of Sacramento, Lakewood, Whittier, Monrovia, Emeryville and Concord. In addition, he arranged an unusual $30 million financing for the California Fairs Financing Authority for public improvements to various county fairgrounds secured by off-track satellite wagering facilities for horse racing. Outside California, Mr. Wood has financed more than $200 million in projects for public agencies in Arizona, Nevada and Idaho.
Mr. Wood is currently financial advisor to both the California State University System and the California State Department of Transportation.
Mr. Wood is a member of the San Francisco Municipal Forum, the San Francisco Municipal Bond Club, the San Francisco Security Analysts Association and the Commonwealth Club of California. He currently serves as a trustee of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Mr. Wood received his B.A. degree from Miami University (Ohio) and his M.B.A. from Columbia University in New York City.
